Radat dam

Rock-fill dam for irrigation, domestic water supply, and hydropower potential.

The Radat dam is a USD 206.5 million planned rock-fill embankment dam on the Perkerra River in Baringo County, designed to store 124 million cubic meters (Mm³) of water and irrigate approximately 2,020 hectares in the semi-arid Mogotio and Baringo Central sub-counties. The dam will have a height of 75 meters, a crest length of 435 meters, and a reservoir area of about 1,374 acres, flooding sections of five sub-locations (Radat, Kimose, Tinomoi, Cheberen, and Tebei).

The project’s intention is to regulate river flow for irrigation, provide domestic water supply, and support hydropower generation potential, while mitigating seasonal water shortages and soil degradation. It also includes an environmental and social management plan to address resettlement and catchment rehabilitation. Overall, the dam will be a major multipurpose infrastructure project to enhance water security, food production, and climate resilience in Baringo County.
