From Kenyan Hides to Global Runways: Alpharama’s USD 8.5M Growth Story
As part of ongoing investor aftercare and deal room facilitation efforts, the Invest Kenya team visited Alpharama Ltd, one of Africa’s leading leather manufacturers. The company is now pursuing an additional USD 8.5 million investment to scale operations.
Employing over 600 Kenyans, Alpharama supplies local brands like Bata, Umoja, Equator, and Sandstorm — while exporting premium leather to global luxury houses including Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Through investments in tannery operations, infrastructure, and slaughterhouses, the company has strengthened local supply chains by working closely with MSMEs across the country.
Its advanced leather processing delivers over 300% value addition, showcasing the untapped potential of Kenya’s leather industry — an industry backed by a livestock base of 22.4 million cattle, 26.2 million sheep, and 38.4 million goats.
Alpharama’s growth is a clear signal of the opportunities available in Kenya’s manufacturing sector. Invest Kenya remains committed to supporting investors, facilitating expansion, and positioning Kenya as a leading manufacturing hub for regional and global markets.
