Del Monte Kenya Commissions New IQF Frozen Facility and Solar Project

This morning, Invest Kenya joined Del Monte Kenya Ltd in celebrating the commissioning of its new IQF Frozen Facility and Solar Project — a significant milestone that reflects reinvestment, resilience, and long-term partnership within Kenya’s agro-industrial sector.
The event was officiated by the Principal Secretary for Investment Promotion, Abubakar H. Abubakar, CBS, who reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to value addition, export diversification, and climate-smart manufacturing. With agriculture contributing 22.5% of Kenya’s GDP, supporting 40% of total employment, and accounting for 55% of exports valued at approximately USD 3.3 billion, the sector remains a key driver of inclusive economic growth.
For more than 60 years, Del Monte Kenya Ltd has played a pivotal role in strengthening Kenya’s horticulture exports and advancing the country’s global agricultural reputation. The company currently employs over 7,000 Kenyans, contributing significantly to livelihoods and local economic development.
The newly commissioned processing line is expected to unlock access to premium export markets while deepening local value addition. At the same time, the solar expansion project supports Kenya’s broader green growth and sustainability agenda.
Invest Kenya was honored to participate in the occasion alongside Board Chairperson Ms. Sally Mahihu, Board Members Mr. Job Kosgei, Alternate State Department for Agriculture, and Mrs. Khadija Mustafa, Private Sector Member, as well as Invest Kenya CEO Mr. John Mwendwa, OGW.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Mwendwa emphasized that more than 50% of investments in Kenya stem from reinvestments, underscoring continued investor confidence in the country and the enduring partnership between Kenya and Del Monte.
Representatives from Murang’a County Government were also present, further highlighting the collaborative effort behind this milestone investment.
The commissioning reinforces Kenya’s position as a competitive, sustainable, and investment-ready destination for agro-industrial investment and value-added manufacturing.
